jason louv dubbed ultraculture to represent the transformative force of technologies in the hyper present cultural matrix of the present. in both tenses as gift and point of time he is correct. as a blog, rune logix fits into the intent of what ultraculture, as a technology manifest of radicalism. what makes it so?
if the world continues at the current rate of growth, all considered, no mean feat, communications and culture will not be viewed as separate concepts. the voice and content of speech is not just some average joe typing on a laptop in a san francisco cafe. rather, the medium becomes the reality. the fundamental act of writing online as easy as breathing, hold that thought breath. there. in the midst of a communications revolution that is faux pax to even reflect a moment in the venerable flow of bytes. fifteen million bloggers in 2005 will be 100 million this year in 2006. 2007? not honestly forcastable. there will be such a collective memory of the planet accessible, to anyone with the means to do so is staggering. the story of humanity will be here in the Day we/be come on line.
whats that got to do with ultraculture? as conceived as a model to network the poetic terrorists of the 21st century, it is this generation, young and old, that is making the ultraculture a reality. by making the disparate connections of individuals connect for better or worse- a catalyst ensues. resources are needed, alliances forged and broken, canvases painted and smashed, the dance floors filled and abandoned, the rituals performed and profaned, the foci of monies flow and absence, more and more, faster and faster! above and beyond- your concerns come in reach and become mine also. the interconnectedness of all things drowns humanity in the wight of its obviousness.
vivisected, ultraculture would seem to be akin the voice behind Dr. Leary's 7th level of Mythic/Immortal level of consciousness de/ascending to reality. Dr. Learys model or level of reality incidentally assumes the same mental posture of a video games graphixity.
so what would this ultraculture look like? perhaps like Disinformation? let's analyze Disinformation. their primary product being books, a website, and personal ads. this would fit the model of a realized ultraculture. intelligence (books), website (communications), and personal ads (social networking) being the basis of any community building endeavor.
i, personally, don't see why the ultraculture would limit itself to just these fields. in fact it doesn't of course. how it has manifested itself at Disinformation and is a powerful testament to the magick the Disinformation Company has wrought the world. in fact, the ultraculture itself would be ill served without it, inconceivable even.
now if we take jason louve seriously when he says in no uncertain terms that the basis of ultraculture lies in the midst of the imagination, that the imaginato Itself will evoke the haute ultracouture, what would that look like?
as bourgeois as myspace.com? i certainly hope not, good taste forbids.
legality certainly, the Law is our weapon after all. the ultraculture is never criminal, although it's benefactors might be labeled as such.
so skilled, and armed with the Law, i think i can expand this list without additional explanation: agape, the magick lands, the fae, visions and voices, autonomous spaces, the Ordeals, success in all forms, highest aspirations, fiat pax.
thats why i see the ultraculture expanding beyond the spheres that Disinformation has carved its niche in, as fast as fire touches gas. so what do we need to continue?
where for out thou ultraculture? skills certainly; ignorance is our anathema. friends? indubitably. you can't get high without a little help from your friends.
take for example rune logix. the name was evoked after a day of mad adventures with the company of the genius and enigma known as shogunx on a grassy knoll at uc berkeley. rune logix is the eponym of everything ultraculture could mean for me at that point of time (before i even knew of the word ultraculture) and it remains so still. damn near impossible to pronounce: rune logix begs repeating at first hearing. when read, it juxtaposes the ancient and postmodern as strange and real (if i may be so bold), as an Alex Grey painting.
i will be bold: what has been a web log of these visions, magnificent and surreal, will help manifest the spirit of a new culture, a new way of doing things, and dovetail the legacy of counterculture. soon an important announcement on the future of rune logix will show itself on these pages in the near future to reflect the changes going on here and elsewhere.
i want to come back and end with now, the indefatigable present jason louv so eloquently reminds us of. come along! the anatomy of ultraculture surrounds you. stop. look around, listen...
the Siren calls...
